About Cappadocia

Cappadocia is the name of a region in middle Anatolia, Turkey and it has one of the most amazing geological formations in the world. It is basically formed because of the volcanic eruptions and natural erosion after the eruption era ended. The human settlements in Cappadocia are mostly located in the valleys of Goreme, Ihlara and Soganli. There are over 200 churches which are still surviving in the region dating back between 01st and 19th centuries and it can still be visited. During the first years of Christianity, people who are excaping from the persecution of Pagan Roman soldiers, came to Cappadocia and started hiding and carving this easy-to-carve valleys. They were living in the valleys with hidden churches. The areas which have no valleys in Cappadocia, had some hard times until 2nd century, but then they invented carving some underground cities to live for temporary times during the attack of soldiers. Today, these churches, settlements and underground cities are the main places to visit in Cappadocia and almost 4 million tourists are visiting the region every year.
